Keraton Yogyakarta Tour

Keraton Yogyakarta Tour is arranged to visit the Sultan Palace or Keraton. This is the most famous tour destination in Jogjakarta. Its location is exactly in the middle of the city of Yogyakarta. Located at Jalan Sultan 1 Sub District Rotowijayan. 

This palace building has a typical architecture of Java. Consisting of pavilions and luxury balaiurungs. Keraton area is surrounded by a high wall called Beteng. The Palace has two spacious courtyards called the square: North Square at front and the South Square at the rear. This Palace is an official residence of the King of Yogyakarta until today. The Sultan is Hamengkubuwono X.

This palace today also functioned as one of tourist destinations in Yogyakarta. There are several museums in this complex. The museum stores historical objects that belonging to the Sultan. For example : Gamelan, Benda Pusaka Keraton, a collection of paintings, a collection of clothings belonging to the king and courtiers. The museum also contains a variety of objects as  a provision from European kings. 

Inside the palace there is also a Batik Museum. It contains a collection of batik which has hundreds  years old. There are also  equipments to make batik and materials of batik.

It has two visitor gates. One counter at front and the other one at the middle. Counter at the front or at the door of soldier brings us to the ward performances. The ward contains the accoutrements of palace, documentation in the form of drawings, photographs, sculptures, and several horse-drawn carriage. While the other door is at the area near the palace. From the northern entrance to the south is about 100 meters.

The ticket price for local traveler is IDR. 5.000. For foreign traveler only IDR. 15.000. Opening hours of Keraton at 9.00 to 14:00, from Monday to Sunday.

Activities that can be done in this palace tour among others are witness the Javanese traditional ceremony, watch art performances in Ward of Sri Manganti and watching Jemparingan or archery. Jemparingan currently used as a one race event. The race can be followed by public. A unique feature of this race is the archer must wear traditional Javanese clothes completely. Archery is in a cross-legged position, not standing.
