Borobudur Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Borobudur Temple is one of the world’s cultural heritages that has been recognized by UNESCO. Built in the 9th century (around 825-925 AD) during the rule of the Sailendra Dynasty. Abandoned after the collapse of the Hindu kingdom in Java in the 14th century. Rediscovered in 1814 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles.
A major restoration was carried out by UNESCO in 1975-1982. The building is in the form of a stupa with 9 levels, representing the spiritual stages towards nirvana. Consists of 2,672 relief panels, 504 Buddha statues, and 72 small stupas. The main building material is andesite stone. Symbol of the spiritual journey towards enlightenment. Depicts the Buddhist concepts of karma, reincarnation, and nirvana. This is one of the largest examples of Buddhist architecture in the world.

Location

Borobudur Temple is located on Badrawati Street in Borobudur District, Magelang Regency, Central Java Province. This location is about 40 km northwest of Yogyakarta City, 10 km from Magelang city and about 60 km from Semarang City.

We can take you to Borobudur Temple in about 1.5 hours by cars. This is the best way to get there. Another way to get there is by public transportation, but we do not recommend this because it will take much longer time.

Ticketing

Local Entrance Ticket:

  • Children (3-10 years old) = IDR 25,000
  • Adults = IDR 50,000
  • Temple Climbing Ticket (Mandala/Mahakarya):
  • Children = IDR 75,000
  • Adults = IDR 120,000
  • Continuous Entrance Ticket
  • Borobudur and Prambanan or Borobudur and Ratu Boko:
  • Adults = IDR 75,000
  • Children IDR 35,000

Foreign Tourist Entrance Ticket:

  • Children (3-10 years old) = IDR 232,500
  • Adults = IDR 387,500

Operational hours:

  • Ticket box open : 06.30 am to 4.30 pm.
  • Tourist area open : 07.00 am to 05.00 pm
